Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid filler that restores volume and firmness to your skin and smooths deep wrinkles. Because the filler initiates collagen production, you benefit from it long-term. How does Sculptra differ from other treatments?
Sculptra works fundamentally differently from hyaluronic acid fillers. Where hyaluronic acid directly adds volume, Sculptra stimulates the production of the body's own collagen through poly-L-lactic acid. Like Radiesse, Sculptra is a collagen stimulator, but the mechanism differs: Radiesse uses calcium hydroxylapatite for a combination of immediate volume and collagen stimulation, while Sculptra works more gradually. The procedure
How does it work?
Step 1: Preparation
Before we begin the treatment, your file is reviewed and a photo is taken for your records. You can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you wait for your turn.
Step 2: The treatment
Sculptra is injected into the discussed areas using a thin needle. Most filler treatments are done without anesthesia. If you find this uncomfortable, a numbing cream can be used in consultation with the doctor. To reduce swelling, the skin is cooled with an ice pack after treatment.
Step 3: Recovery and aftercare — the 5-5-5 rule
To ensure optimal results and a gradual, long-lasting effect from Sculptra, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions:
- Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for the first 5 days after treatment. Use a moisturizer to reduce friction
- Apply a cold compress in the first 24 hours to reduce swelling
- Makeup is allowed after a few hours, provided there are no complications
- Avoid sun exposure and UV sunbeds until swelling and redness have disappeared
- Avoid sauna and steam baths for 24 hours
Step 4: The result
The effect of the Sculptra treatment is visible after approximately 6 weeks. For best results, 2 or more repeat treatments are advised. The doctor will discuss with you how many treatments you need for your desired result. The effect of Sculptra remains visible for an average of 2 years.
